Once upon a time, say, two years ago, I learned the basic principal of knitting cables. It’s a simple concept, really, and I thought it would be neat to find a way to cable an endless knot. My knitting skills at the time were still pretty rudimentary, and while they’re not much better now, I failed in my efforts to create a pattern at the time. The latest fruit of my knitting haze, however, is a pattern that actually works. I am pleased to present any interested takers in the community with my very first original pattern. I’ll add a picture to the post as soon as I get a chance. (I know, I know. I used formatting, hyperlinks, and pictures for the first time all in the same week? What is the world coming to these days? : )

Endless Knot Pattern

Abbreviations (from Knitty)

C2B: Slip next st to cable needle and hold to back of work, k1, k1 from cable needle.
C2F: Slip next st to cable needle and hold to front of work, k1, k1 from cable needle.
PC2B: Slip next st to cable needle and hold to back of work, k1, p1 from cable needle.
PC2F: Slip next st to cable needle and hold to front of work, p1, k1 from cable needle.

Directions

Cast on 16

Row 1: (RS) K1, P6, K2, P6, K1

Row 2: (and all WS rows) Work stitches as they appear.

Row 3: K1, P5, PC2B, PC2F, P5, K1

Row 5: K1, P5, K1, P2, K1, P5, K1

Row 7: K1, P5, PC2F, PC2B, P5, K1

Row 9: K1, P2, K2, P2, C2B, P2, K2, P2, K1

Row 11: K1, P1, [PC2B, PC2F] 3 times, P1, K1

Row 13: K1, P1, K1, P2, [C2F, P2] 2 times, K1, P1, K1

Row 15: K1, P1, [PC2F, PC2B] 3 times, P1, K1

When Finished: Bind off in pattern (Row 2)

To Increase: Increase in increments of 6 stitches, adding 8 rows to the pattern length to widen the diamonds to make each diamond center follow the vertical pattern of 2P, 4P, 4P, 2P. If this makes no sense, email me and I’ll explain in more detail.
